Connect your coding agent

Connection routes for Codex, Cursor and Claude.

The recommended npm setup installs the reusable skill and MCP connection once for Codex, Cursor and Claude Code. Restart the selected agent after installation, then open a project and ask it to start Foundry. An installed connection and a listening agent are different readiness checks.

All supported agents
npx foundry-design install

Choose agents
npx foundry-design install --agent codex,cursor,claude

Alternative connection routes

CodexShared plugin-ready connection

Use the npm route until Foundry completes public marketplace review. It installs the same skill and MCP bridge across projects.

Install for Codex
npx foundry-design install-agent codex

CursorShared MCP connection

Install the shared Cursor connection, then run Foundry from each product repository to add its development adapter.

Install for Cursor
npx foundry-design install-agent cursor

Claude CodeVersioned plugin marketplace

Add the Foundry marketplace once, install the plugin, then reload plugins before opening the product project.

Install for Claude Code
/plugin marketplace add seanx24x/foundry-design-control
/plugin install foundry-design-control@foundry-design-control
/reload-plugins

Claude DesktopNative extension bundle

Install the release bundle from Settings, Extensions, Advanced. New MCP tools become available in a new task.

Download the MCPB bundle

After the shared connection exists, every project needs only its development adapter and local metadata. Foundry creates that lightweight connection automatically.

Connect this project
npx foundry-design connect

Project-scoped connections remain available as an explicit compatibility option.

Compatibility mode
npx foundry-design setup --project-agent --agent codex

Claude Desktop can also use Foundry through the validated MCPB extension. Install the extension from Claude Desktop settings, then use the normal Foundry command in each project to add the development adapter.
